Exploring the Natural World
Plein Air Painting at Grimes Glen
with Patrick McPhee
It’s time to think of spring, so we’ll spend a weekend in beautiful Grimes Glen located in Naples NY. This is the perfect time of year to become reacquainted with mixing effective greens and other colors to celebrate the emergence of flora, creeks, and shadows in the landscape.
This workshop is for artists of all skill levels, studio and plein air painters alike, who are drawn to the outdoor painting experience. Patrick will overview his process from the sketch to the finished piece. With over two decades of painting experience, this is a great opportunity to get some great tips for plein air painting. Let Patrick teach you some new oil painting skills.
Meet up point is Grimes Glen parking lot. Bathrooms are available on site. We’ll start at 9:30 am with a demonstration at the site. After the demonstration, participants will paint the scene of their choosing and we’ll close on Sunday with a critique.
To register for this special Plein Air workshop, contact the gallery at 585-394-0030 or by email.

About Patrick McPhee
Patrick McPhee seamlessly blends his love for the outdoors and fishing with his passion for painting. Much of Patrick's childhood was spent exploring the natural world and camping with family. These experiences would go on to shape his artistic style and influence his work for the rest of his life.
After studying at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Patrick became fascinated by the Hudson River School of painters, their reverence for nature and the way they captured light. With this inspiration, Patrick began to develop his own style, focusing on capturing the beauty of the natural world in a realistic manner. His works often feature scenes of mountains, rivers, lakes, and streams.
Patrick is also an avid fisherman and often incorporates his love for fishing into his work. He might include fishermen on the water, or reeling in a catch, capturing the beauty and serenity of this timeless activity.
Today, Patrick continues to paint, always striving to improve his craft and to share his love for art and nature with others. He is known for his meticulous attention to detail. He often returns areas to their former glory, removing buildings, parking lots, and powerlines. Each year he participates
