Kim Ratzel

Kim Ratzel began her art studies in 1974-1976 at Moore College of Art, Philadelphia, PA. and graduated with a BFA and teaching degree in 1978 from California College of Arts &  Crafts in Oakland, Ca. majoring in printmaking under Patricia Tobacco Forrester. After graduation in the 1980’s she was a freelance graphic designer and owner of a graphics arts business: which she wrote, designed and published major national retail art supply catalogs in the USA.

In 1993, she left the USA and moved to Germany. There she reinvented a life as a mother, artist and corporate team member of a major German and British international moving companies; which relocated corporate families around the world.  Kim has participated in many art shows, workshops and art events in Wetzlar (Hessen), Germany. Her art is in private collections in the USA and Germany.

Since moving back to the USA in 2010 over the years Kim continued her love of learning through various classes in painting and discovery of oil painting through her mentor, Pat Rini Rohrer. Kim also served on the Finger Lakes Plein Air Committee for several years and is a member of the Ontario County Arts Council.

Her passion is painting. The latest works are flooded with texture, bold color, mood and often portray hidden imagery. Kim says there are many things that inspire her; past art masters, dreams, Plein Air, ancient art, the journey of life and exploring new techniques and art materials.  “The moment I picked up a paint brush I was captivated and became a story teller with paint. I love how art and story reveals itself to the viewer in its own way.”
