Bruce Baxter Oil Painter

Bruce was always interested in art, but did not pursue his interest past high school. His career path took him into the sciences and health care. In 1997, he started painting seriously with Corning artist, Tom Buechner. Tom was a noted portrait artist and his Friday evening portrait group was an opportunity to learn from a master. Bruce’s interest continued and expanded from that point on and he has been painting ever since.

Bruce works in oil paint exclusively and his style might be described as loose and gestural. Thick layers of color characterizes his work. He loves to paint a variety of subjects, both plein air and in the studio. In his landscapes, Bruce often includes people and while his work is representational, he tries to incorporate a strong abstract design.
